In a deeply moving and solemn ceremony, Reverend Deacon Bakang Khunou, alongside Brothers Thato Mashokwe and Sechaba Liphoko, took their Oath of Fidelity and made their Profession of Faith before His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Brislin, Archbishop of Johannesburg. This significant moment marked a final step in their preparation to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

The rite, held at the Chancery Chapel in the presence of clergy, seminarians, and the Chancery staff, is a sacred declaration of unwavering commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and fidelity to ecclesial authority. For these three young men, it signified their readiness to fully embrace the responsibilities of ordained ministry.
Looking ahead, the Archdiocese of Johannesburg now eagerly awaits the upcoming ordinations, which will take place on Saturday, 26 July 2025. On this day, Deacon Bakang Khunou will be ordained to the Order of the Presbyterate (Priesthood), while Brothers Thato Mashokwe and Sechaba Liphoko will be ordained to the Order of the Diaconate, all through the laying on of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit by Cardinal Brislin himself.
This occasion will mark a significant milestone not only in the lives of the ordinands but also in the life of the local Church, as it continues to grow in vocations and faithful service. The Church in Johannesburg gives thanks to God for the witness, generosity, and courage of these three men as they prepare to give their lives in service to the Gospel and God’s people.
Let us accompany them with our prayers and support as they move towards ordination, carrying with them the hopes of their families, parishes, and the entire Archdiocese. May their “yes” to God be a source of inspiration for others to listen to the call of the Lord.
