Catechesis is at the service of evangelization.

It draws its life from the mandate Jesus gave to his disciples, “Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Good News to all creation.” (Mk. 16:16)

The vision of catechesis is understood as an on-going journey of faith; a process of initiation into the life and mission of Christ. The ‘newness’ of this vision is based on the restoration of an ancient practice of initiating unbaptized adults into the Church.

Catechesis is at the service of evangelization.

All catechesis in the Diocese, according to the directives of the South African Catholic Bishops Conference of 1998, has as its norm and vision the baptismal catechumenate.

It understands catechesis as a life long journey of conversion and faith, based on Scripture and Tradition, nourished by liturgy and prayer, and forms believers for discipleship.  It involves the whole community.
