It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of Mr. John Mills, who passed away on the 14thAugust 2023. Fr. Ignatius Fidgeon OMI, administered the last rites just before 5pm when John passed on.
John Mills, at the invitation of Fr. John Finlayson (Vicar General at the time) was asked to come and assist with the Finance and Property Portfolio of the Diocese. Over the years while working in the Chancery he has worn the hat as “the business man” in his role as Financial Administrator for nearly 30 years until his retirement at the end of 2020. His dedication has been truly selfless, and he did not count the cost. The total giving of himself as the Financial Administrator contributed immensely to the stability and growth of the financial situation of the Diocese.
At his retirement he was awarded the BENEMERENTI MEDAL by Pope Francis for the years of commitment, and long-standing devotion to the Johannesburg Catholic Community.
His Grace Archbishop Buti Tlhagale, invite all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg to give praise and thanks to God for the life and ministry of JOHN MILLS as we commend him to the Lord, asking the angels to lead him into paradise so that he may hear those blessed words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; come, share your Master’s joy.”
Last, but not least, we convey our deepest condolences to his children: Nikki (son), Allan (son), Belinda (daughter) and all his dearly beloved family members as we entrust them into the care of the Lord with our prayers.
The funeral will take place Friday 1st September 2023 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Victory Park. The Requiem Mass will commence at 1pm.
We commend him to the Lord, asking the angels to lead him into paradise so that he may hear those blessed words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; come, share your Master’s joy.”
