His Eminence, Cardinal Stephen Brislin, Archbishop of Johannesburg, has issued a strong pastoral message addressing the recent situation where certain groups have prevented non-South Africans from accessing medical facilities and schools.
Cardinal Brislin expresses deep concern, stating that such actions are “deeply abhorrent and contrary to the Gospel of Christ, who welcomed all and showed compassion without borders.”
The Cardinal calls upon the faithful and all people of goodwill to uphold the dignity of every person, regardless of nationality, and to reject discrimination and violence. He reminded us that the Catholic Church stands in solidarity with the vulnerable, the poor, the migrant, and the refugee, echoing Christ’s call:
“I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25:35).
