The proclaimers of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg attended a workshop on the ministry at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Saturday 13, April.
The workshop, for the 218 enthusiasts, some of whom came from Pretoria parishes, was hosted by the Office of Divine Worship and Liturgy and was facilitated by Fr Boshom Mpetsheni, parish priest of St Albert’s in Vosloorus.
In addition to placing emphasis on the spirituality of the proclaimer, the priest told the faithful that in the ministry, the practitioner should have love for the word of the Lord, love for the Church and her teachings. He pointed out that while God spoke to us through the word, proclaimers must always possess a personality trait marked by diligence, self-discipline and humility, thus bringing faith to the congregation.
Other matters discussed included: the description of a proclaimer, who can be a proclaimer, the proper dress and the preparation for the proclamation of the Word of God.
After an expression of gratitude by the Head of the Liturgy Department, Annastacia Mphuthi to Fr Boshom and the proclaimers, particularly those who came from Pretoria, the priest offered the final blessing.
