The Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference’ Pastoral Plan was launched with much success on Sunday, 26 January.
The day started with a gathering and a ritual at Mshenguville Park, Mofolo, which included the blessing of the people with holy water as a reminder of our baptism. This was followed by a procession to the historic Regina Mundi, Moroka. Mass was led by President of the SACBC, Bishop Sithembele Sipuka.
The pastoral plan begins with a call to evangelisation, and the big element of evangelisation is conversion, about which the Gospel speaks today, “repent for the kingdom of God is close at hand”.
The theme of the new Pastoral Plan is Evangelising Community Serving God, Humanity and All Creation. Bishop Sithembele said the symbol, which is that of a hand, is a reminder that by virtue of our baptism, we are all called to lend a hand which is associated with work. Let us all look at what you can do to reach out motivated by our faith, he added.
The event was also attended by people from neighbouring dioceses.
